
Hanks in his next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. Many critics praised the film and the performances of the entire cast including actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan. The film garnered nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks later played Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). In the following year the director made his debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the demise and growth of a music group from the 1960s. He also played in the role of music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanksacting performance has earned him a place among the most romantic comedic actors of the time.
